KinderGARDEN Bake Sale
Yesterday we
helped to host our hugely successful bake sale to raise money for
our KinderGARDEN planting supplies. Thanks to all of our families who
donated baking and sent money with their kids, we made $500! We are so
excited that we far exceeded our goals.

Peek at Our Week - Paper, Butterflies, and Chicks!
What a week! We've got a LOT going on in our little classroom.
I
found a farmer at Morning Sound Farm who was willing to sell us
fertilized chicken eggs. They should hatch in just over two weeks.
Our
caterpillars also arrived. We've each named one and we are busy
watching them grow and change. Some of them will be in their chrysalis
sometime next week.
Here
we are, learning about paper and how it's made. Did you know that paper
can be made out of banana peels? Did you know that some paper is made
in a pot bigger than our classroom?!
We also officially started learning about the
butterfly life cycle. We looked at pictures and props before acting out the
stages. Did you know a caterpillar pops its head off as it gets too big
for it?! It sheds its head five times before building its
chrysalis. Another interesting fact: a butterfly isn't just a caterpillar
with wings. When it enters its chrysalis, it breaks down into black goo,
a pile of cells which rebuilds itself into a whole new creature, the butterfly.
We are eggs that have
been laid on a leaf.
We are the size of the
period at the end of this sentence.
We've come out of our
eggs and we are little caterpillars who spend our days
eating, pooping(!),
and resting. We also pop our heads off as we outgrow them.
We are spinning our silk chrysalises as we dangle under a
leaf. We break down into black goo before rebuilding ourselves as
butterflies.
We emerge and pump
coloured ink into our wings and wait for
them to dry before we
can fly.
We
stand on a flower and taste with our feet! Then we unroll our
proboscis and slurp up the nectar like we are drinking through a straw.
Then we lay new eggs and the life cycle starts over again.
We love to observe and play with
our caterpillars. They are getting long and fat.

The Integrated Arts - DANCE!
This week we had our first visit with our 'The Integrated Arts'
artist. Her name is Rebecca and she is a contemporary dancer. We worked
on high, medium and low dance levels, speed, and rhythm. We also danced
through the life-cycle of a butterfly, including resting in our
chrysalises.

Music Monday and Farm Field Trip
Last week was very, very full! We started with Music Monday.
Here are some shots of our little cuties in action. It all started
with a talent show in the gym and then after recess we did twelve
different music stations. It was lots of fun.
On Wednesday we had an amazing day at Morning Sound Farm. Here are our farm
pictures. We had a GREAT day. Here are some
of the things we did:

Bonus Sleeping Pic - The farm tired them out!
